Aquatic Fitness Classes- Gettysburg

Aquatic exercise is one of the safest and most enjoyable forms of exercise! The Gettysburg YMCA offers a variety of morning classes that are sure to fit every need!
Morning classes resume on Monday, February 17th.  There will be no morning classes on Wednesdays, February 12 and 19.

Slow Low Intensity – Mondays & Fridays, 9:45-10:30 am
This class is designed for those entering the water fitness arena for the first time, re-entering after a break, or recovering from an injury or surgery. It offers a low-impact, slow-moving workout, including water walking, slow jogging, stretches, and fundamental strengthening. The class aims to improve balance, core strength, and agility.

Cardio Splash – Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 10:30-11:30 am
A low-impact but high-intensity water fitness class where no swimming skills are needed. This class uses the water’s resistance and various resistance equipment to improve flexibility, range of motion, strength, muscle tone, and cardiovascular endurance.

Core Zone – Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 11:30 am-12 pm
This shallow water class focuses on cardio, full-body strengthening, core toning, and balance. Light jumping and leaping are included.

S.P.L.A.S.H.– Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 12:30-1:30 pm
(Swim, Pull, Laps, Aerobic, Stroke Hour)
This class is designed to help lap swimmers improve their strokes and turns and learn to incorporate interval training into their workouts.  The equipment that is supplied includes kickboards and pull buoys. Additional recommended equipment includes swim caps, goggles, fins, and hand paddles.  This equipment can all be purchased at www.swimoutlet.com.  Come try out a class and get specific recommendations for equipment from Coach Beth Raub.

Aqua Core – Tuesdays and Thursdays – 8:30-9:30 am
This low-impact moderate to high-intensity class takes place in shallow water and includes water walking, jogging, and running, along with resistance equipment exercises to improve joint stability, flexibility, coordination, heart health, and strength.

Deep Water Power – Tuesdays and Thursdays – 9:40-10:40 am
This class provides a high-power workout utilizing deep water running techniques and internal training while using resistance equipment. Participants must be comfortable and able to swim in deep water and must be able to maintain a vertical position with a floatation belt.

F.I.T. Swimming – Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:15-5:45 pm
(Fitness Interval Training)
This lap swimming class provides a great aerobic workout using interval training, helping improve endurance and speed.  Several participants in this group are members of United States Masters Swimming; however, members are not required to join Masters. The equipment that is supplied includes kickboards and pull buoys. Additional recommended equipment includes swim caps, goggles, fins, and hand paddles.  This equipment can all be purchased at www.swimoutlet.com.
